Tanning by the pool in Vegas.

Happiness is, the first day of SUMMER!!! How I love to look tanned, but I'm so afraid of sun damage, that I've turned into an encyclopedia, (wikipedia should I say!), on looking bronzed, semi - artificially. I do lie in the sun, but always, and I mean always, with a high protection cream, sunglasses and a hat. Don't forget that your hair ages too, and it gets dry and brittle from the sunlight and the water, whether it's chlorine or sea-water.

Here are my 5 steps to better, safer tan:

  1. Choose your face cream adequately. If your skin is oily, pick a fluid, if not, opt for a creamy texture. In both cases, it should be at least 30 SPF. You can also find both textures with colour, and I really recommend it, as it unifies the skin tone and just makes you look more composed in the sweltering heat. These are my favourites, La Roche Posay, , and here, and Uriage
  2. This year I'm giving my body as much protection as my face. Previously, I used high protection on my face, and as I got lower on my body, so did the SPF factor lower. Not a good idea, as recently studies have shown that skin cancers have appeared on the lower part of the leg. So this summer, my body staple is by Piz Buin,  as it goes on super fluid, smells great, no bottle tops to lose and it's also available in 50 SPF.
  3. Exfoliate and get rid of dead skin before you go out in the sun. This will ensure an even tan, and silky skin. My face scrub is from Kiehl's, and my body exfoliator is from Rituals.
  4. Use an tan extender. What's this!?? It's a body cream with a little self- tanning agent that, especially in the early days, gives you a lovely tanned glow. My favourite now is from Dove, in a great packaged tube.
  5. Never forget your hair. As I've said before, it ages too, and your colour alters in the sun. Spray some protective oil from Phyto, or put on a mask and let the heat intensify as it all soaks in.

So take care and enjoy the sun safely!
